KIM MATTHEWS WHEATON

LANDSCAPE PAINTINGS IN OIL

ABOUT

KIM MATTHEWS WHEATON was born in New York City and grew up in San Francisco. She began painting in high school, and received her BFA degree at the University of California, Berkeley. In 1997 she and her family moved to Eastern Washington, where they lived for 20 years. It was there that she fell in love with the simplicity and peacefulness of her surroundings and she began painting the landscape she was living in. She now lives on the West side of the mountains, but still in Washington and close to the dry expanses of Eastern Washington. She is finding new inspiration in the agricultural lands of the Skagit Valley and along the Eastern shores of the Olympic Peninsula. There are parallels to the two landscapes that draw her in. The sense of distance, the long horizons, the bright sunlight and the dramatic skies.
